CAROL RIFKIN

An artist who has always inspired me is Mary Cassatt.  While some of the subjects of my work are nudes, still life and landscapes I much prefer to paint women and children which Cassatt did so magnificently.

 

I am fortunate to have many models as my children and grandchildren are happy to pose for me.  Often I catch them in a position which might make a good painting and I say “Hold it” and snap away. 

 

My camera is my trusted ally in this as they cannot always sit for any length of time. I do not seek a realistic result but rather an impressionistic feeling.  If I can convey the emotion and mood of my subject to the viewer, then I believe I have been successful.
